 Welcome
Home Tim Hortons!
On September 23rd, Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited Tim Hortons on Wyecroft Road to
celebrate the return of Tim Hortons head office to Canada – and Oakville. A key
reason that Timmy’s executives brought their Corporate head office back home from
the United States was that corporate taxes in Canada are going down. Two benefits of lower
corporate taxes are that they attract new jobs and new investment in Canada. Our plan is
working.
"In 1995 when Tim Hortons merged with an American firm it effectively became an
American company. That decision was undoubtedly made in the best interests of the company, but
here we are today, 14 years later, because it is now in the best interest of the company to
come back to Canada. This decision is all about the bottom line and the bottom line is that
Canada is now not just a great place to live, but a great place to invest and do business,"
said Prime Minister. "When our government took office in 2006 the corporate tax
rate, just at the federal level, was over 22 per cent. Today it is down to 19 per cent and
it will fall to 15 per cent by 2012 when it will be the lowest in the G7!"

A photo-opportunity? You bet – at least for an Oakville Works crew that dropped in
for a coffee, and for our Constituency Assistants Joan Gibb and Kim Blain. Their pictures
with the Prime Minister – and more details about the visit – could be found in
the Fall 2009 issue of our Inside
Ottawa newsletter.
