The Government of Canada Supports Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
OAKVILLE, Ontario, February 19, 2009
On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages,
Terence today announced funding for the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.
The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts is the main performance venue in the town of
Oakville and features programming in five categories: concert, classical and world artists,
comedy, Beyond the Mainstream, and a family series. The Centre strives to provide Oakville
residents with a place to learn about themselves and the world around them through dance,
music, storytelling, and theatre.
This funding will support the Centre’s 32nd season, including performances of dance,
theatre, and comedy presented by more than 300 culturally diverse professional and emerging
performers. Audience members will also have the opportunity to attend pre-performance chats
with the artists and to participate in a dance residency program.
"As the Member of Parliament for Oakville, I promised to support the arts and I hope
this is just the beginning of new federal support for the arts in Oakville," said
Terence.
"With the Government of Canada’s funding, the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
has been able to literally bring the world to Oakville," says Ronnie Brown, Coordinator
of Marketing and Development, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.
"With the ability to present diverse programming that includes cultural performances for
student audiences, a family component with unique world artists, and performances featuring
new multicultural Canadian artists, the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts´ mandate
continues to be successfully executed."
