Terence presents greetings from the Prime Minister at the Courage Brothers’ 24th
annual Polar Bear Dip
Hundreds of people jump into the icy cold waters of Lake Ontario at
the Courage Brothers’ Polar Bear Dip each January 1st at the Coronation Park in Oakville
to raise funds for World Vision. This year Terence had a pleasure of presenting Prime
Minister’s personal greetings to this worthy charitable event.
It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to everyone
taking part in the Courage Brothers’ Polar Bear Dip for World Vision, now in its 24th
year.
This special fundraiser brings a touch of fun to the serious task of
helping less fortunate people around the world become self-sufficient. It is fitting that the
bountiful waters of Canada’s Great Lakes should be the source of efforts to bring safe
drinking water to communities where persistent droughts cause disease and hardship. I am
certain that you will take satisfaction in knowing that proceeds from this year’s event
will fund the Kahi Water Project in the Umutara region of Rwanda.
I would like to commend the "polar bears" of Oakville for
supporting this worthwhile endeavour. It is heartening to know that your participation in a
Canadian New Year tradition will make such a positive difference in the lives of people who
live far away but are in our thoughts.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish you all a memorable day,
as well as every success in meeting your fundraising goals.
The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
